Revoking Members
Remove member access from an approval set.
Prerequisites
- An existing approval set with members to revoke
- Web App paired with mobile app
- Enough remaining members to meet threshold requirements after revocation
Warning
Member revocation is permanent. Revoked members lose all access to approval set operations and cannot participate in threshold approvals. Ensure you have enough remaining members to meet your approval set’s threshold requirements before proceeding.
Navigate to Approval Set Members
In the Web App:
- Click Approval Sets in the sidebar
- Select the approval set containing members to revoke
- Click the Members tab
You’ll see a table listing all current approval set members with their details.
Select Members to Revoke
Choose Members
In the members table:
- Use the checkboxes to select one or more members
- Selected members are highlighted
- A bulk action bar appears at the bottom of the screen
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Member’s email address | |
| Shares | Number of shares held by this member |
| Accepted | Whether the member has accepted their membership |
| Added | When the member was added to the approval set |
Review Selection
Before proceeding, verify:
- You’ve selected the correct members
- Remaining members can still meet the threshold
- You understand the consequences of revocation
Confirm Revocation
Initiate Revocation
With members selected:
- Click the Revoke button in the bulk action bar
- A confirmation dialog appears
- The dialog shows how many members will be revoked
Understand the Consequences
The confirmation dialog explains:
- Revoked members immediately lose approval set access
- Their shares become invalid
- They cannot participate in future threshold operations
- This action cannot be undone
Submit for Approval
- Click Confirm in the dialog
- A threshold proposal is created
- Remaining approval set members must approve the revocation
Note
Revocation requires threshold approval from remaining members. The member being revoked cannot vote on their own revocation.
Approval Process
Threshold Approval
After submitting:
- Remaining approval set members receive a notification
- They must approve the revocation on their mobile devices
- Once threshold is reached, revocation takes effect immediately
Monitor Progress
The roundtrip page shows:
- Which members have approved
- Which are still pending
- Overall revocation status
After Revocation
What Happens to Revoked Members
Once revocation is complete:
| Aspect | Effect |
|---|---|
| Approval Set Access | Immediately revoked |
| Shares | Deleted from their device |
| Voting Rights | Cannot participate in approval set operations |
| Notifications | No longer receive approval set notifications |
| Mobile App | Approval set disappears from their approval set list |
Approval Set Threshold
After revocation:
- Threshold requirements remain the same
- Ensure remaining members can still reach threshold
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| “Cannot revoke” error | Would leave approval set below threshold | Keep enough members to meet threshold requirements |
| Revocation stuck at “Waiting” | Remaining members haven’t approved | Contact remaining members to approve |
| Member still shows in list | Revocation not yet complete | Wait for threshold approval to complete |
