Download and set up the SplitSecure mobile app.

Prerequisites

  • Either an iOS device (iPhone or iPad) running iOS 26 or later - or an Android / GrapheneOS device running Android 14 or later
  • Internet connection for download and setup

Initial Setup

Sign In

When you first launch SplitSecure, you’ll be prompted to authenticate. Sign in with your email or identity provider account to continue. This links the app to your account so you can join approval sets and participate in operations.

Permissions

After signing in, you’ll be prompted to grant permissions:

  • Camera: Required for scanning QR codes during device pairing and approval set operations
  • Notifications: Allows the app to alert you when your vote is needed on a proposal

Your device is now ready to join approval sets and participate in threshold operations.

How SplitSecure Works

SplitSecure has no administrators. All approval set members are equal participants:

  • Any approval set member can propose operations (adding members, creating identity providers, etc.)
  • All operations require a threshold of approval set members to vote in approval
  • The person who initiates approval set creation is called the Dealer: they propose the initial configuration, but the approval set only forms when all founding members approve

If you will create approval sets or configure identity providers:

  • Continue to the Web App guide
  • You’ll need to pair your mobile app with the Web App

If you’re joining an existing approval set to vote on proposals:

  • Wait for someone to share a QR code or lobby code
  • Scan the code with your mobile app to join
  • No additional setup is required
